Rules for Christian Households… The word of God instructs us to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Submission is a difficult attribute to attain on our own. Today we are going to focus on Colossians 3:18 Wives submit to your husbands as is fitting to the Lord. We truly need the power of the “Word of God”; Christ and the Holy Spirit in us to attain the grace over our actions. Marriage is our first ministry, so often I witness we put our children ahead of our marriages. Marriage is a ministry of love and love is an act and not emotion tied to a list of qualifications or standards we set. The biggest error we make is setting a human standard for our husbands that not we are willing to meet. The reason I state this is because the moment our husbands do not meet our standards we tend to withhold kindness, mercy and grace. We tend to remember all the things that he did not do, or the things that he does that irritate us.
I have a friend Marlene, that was my neighbor for 11 years, her husband cooked, cared for the children daily, shopped ran errands and took the children to their various activities; He truly was an involved father. Why was he successful? Because his wife Marlene treated him with love, reverence and respect. No man is perfect and does not come to us whole or complete. We are all a work in progress. My beautiful friend recognized her own flaws and focused on the positives of her husband. Marlene also took the time to teach her Husband how to cook, shop and care for the children with much patience. And this allowed them to partner and also have time for one another. Yes the children were important but they made decision to make their marriage and their communication a priority. When others would have quit the relationship, they persevered because they are committed to their marriage. Even through the difficult times, they continue to stand firm in the truths of the biblical standards of marriage.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. We thank you for the counsel of your word that gives us biblical and practical standards for living. Allow us not to be prideful because your word states; knowledge puffs up but love builds up. Show your daughters how to be submissive wives to husbands because in doing so we are submitting unto you. May our prayers be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of our hands be like the evening sacrifice. Set a guard over our mouth and help to keep watch over the door of our lips. Your daughters will write on their hearts that love covers a multitude of wrongs. In obedience and love toward you Father [we] your daughters will, submit to our husbands, as is fitting for us in Christ. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance,Love in Christ,Jennifer Pettiford
